The University of Sussex Dr. John Birch Music Scholarship for International Students in the UK for 2023/2024

About the Scholarship:

The Dr. John Birch Music Scholarship has been established by the University of Sussex in honor of the esteemed former music instructor and organist, Dr. John Birch (1929-2012). This scholarship aims to support a dedicated organist in their pursuit of further development and performance opportunities while studying at Sussex. Eligible applicants include both current Sussex undergraduate and postgraduate students, regardless of their field of study, whether it is music-related or not.

About the University of Sussex:

Located in Falmer, East Sussex, England, the University of Sussex is a public research institution with a strong emphasis on research. The majority of its campus is situated within the administrative boundaries of Brighton and Hove, surrounded by the picturesque South Downs National Park.   • A cash prize of £800.
  • Access to the School of Media, Arts, and Humanities (MAH) music practice spaces.
  • All applicants who progress to the audition stage will have the opportunity to add their names to a list of musicians available to perform at campus events or collaborate with other artists, regardless of the outcome of their application.

Eligibility Criteria for Dr. John Birch Music Scholarship:

To be eligible for the Dr. John Birch Music Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be able to play the organ at a level no lower than Grade 8.
  • Must be accepted or enrolled at the University of Sussex (applicable to candidates planning to enroll in 2023).
