University History:
The institution’s history can be traced back to the Karlsschule, Stuttgart’s first university, which existed from 1770 to 1794. It was later known as the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart-Hohenheim from 1818 onwards and is unrelated to the University of Stuttgart. The modern University of Stuttgart was officially founded in 1829 and celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2004. It adopted the name Technische Hochschule Stuttgart (Stuttgart Institute of Technology) in 1876 to reflect the growing importance of technical sciences and education in those fields. In 1900, it received authorization to award Ph.D. degrees in technical disciplines. In 1967, it underwent a name change to its current designation, “Universität Stuttgart,” signifying the expansion of its educational offerings, including new subjects like the social sciences and the history of science and technology.

The University of Stuttgart consistently earns high rankings in global university assessments. Both the Academic Ranking of World Universities and the Times Higher Education Supplement routinely place it among the world’s top institutions. Specifically, in the field of engineering and technology, it ranks 79th globally in the QS World University Rankings. Notably, it stands 42nd globally and third in Germany for mechanical, aeronautical, and manufacturing engineering. University of Stuttgart Scholarship Program – Benefits:

University of Stuttgart Scholarship Program – Eligibility:
To be eligible for the University of Stuttgart Scholarship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in chemical, civil, environmental, mechanical, process engineering, or a closely related field.
- Have at least two years of professional experience.
- Demonstrate a strong command of the English language, with one of the following test results required:
- TOEFL (iBT): 79
- TOEFL (CB): 213
- TOEFL (PB): 550
- IELTS (Academic): 6.5
- Equivalent English exam certificate taken no more than two years before the application deadline. (Note: TOEFL ITP is not accepted for the application.)
- Have a basic understanding of the German language at the “Basic User (A2)” level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Those lacking sufficient or recognized German language proficiency must enroll in the free German Intensive Language Course in September.
