Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students in China, 2020

The International Cultural Exchange School at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics welcomes applications for the Shanghai Government Scholarship, available to bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students from countries other than the People’s Republic of China.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Open to students from countries other than the People’s Republic of China.
  • Available for any subject offered by the university.
  • Applicants must be in good health and not citizens of the People’s Republic of China.
  • Bachelor’s program applicants should be at least 18 years old with a completed high school diploma by September 1, 2020.
  • Master’s program applicants should be under 35 years old with a completed bachelor’s degree by September 1, 2020.
  • PhD degree applicants should be under 40 years old with a completed master’s degree by September 1, 2020.

Application Process:

  1. Step 1: Submit the application on http://study.shmec.gov.cn, print out the application form, and sign it.
  2. Step 2: Submit the program application on http://ao.sufe.edu.cn, print out the degree program application form, and sign it.
  3. Step 3: Present the supporting documents to the Admission Office at ICES SUFE.
    • Submit hard copies of all documents between 8 am to 5 pm on workdays.
    • Application must be made online, and only hard copy documents are accepted.

Supporting Documents:

  • Application Form for Degree Program (original copy).
  • Copies of diplomas, degree certificates, and academic transcripts (certified and translated if not in English or Chinese).
  • HSK certificate and transcript.
  • Personal statement in English or Chinese.
  • Letter(s) of reference (for Type A or B).
  • Remittance note for application fee.
  • Passport identification copy.
  • Additional certificates recognizing awards or merits (optional).

Admission Requirements: Before applying for the scholarship, students must secure admission to the university.

Language Requirement: Candidates not fluent in English must meet language proficiency requirements: new HSK5 level (scoring at least 180).
