Each scholarship award is designed to cover a significant portion of the student’s educational costs, including tuition, living expenses, books, and mandatory fees. The specific award amount varies depending on the cost of tuition and any other grants or scholarships the recipient may receive.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship Program is the largest undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school graduates with financial needs who aspire to enroll in the top four-year colleges and institutions in the nation. In addition to receiving a monetary award, Cooke Scholars also benefit from extensive cohort-based programming, comprehensive academic counseling, support for graduate school applications, a robust network of around 3,200 other Cooke Scholars, and alumni assistance.
The scholarship program offers the following:

Eligibility Criteria for Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship Program
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship Program:
- Proficiency in English.
- Eligible country: United States.
- Senior standing: Intend to earn a high school diploma in the spring of 2024.
- Fall college enrollment: Plan to enroll at a four-year, accredited institution starting in the fall of 2023.
- GPA: Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 3.5.
- Income: Demonstrate unmet financial needs based on income. Families earning up to $95,000 per year may apply. The average household income for last year’s group of freshmen who received new college scholarships was approximately $35,000.
Each application for the College Scholarship Program is carefully reviewed by a committee of educational experts from across the country. Selection criteria include:
- Academic achievement: Maintaining a strong academic record, obtaining excellent teacher recommendations, displaying a desire to be challenged, and demonstrating a passion for learning. Candidates must have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 to be considered.
- Leadership: Showing initiative, uplifting others, and making positive contributions to the community.
- Persistence: Exhibiting determination in the face of challenges, setting and working towards goals, and displaying adaptability.
- Unmet financial need: Applicants with unmet financial need are considered if their family income is up to $95,000. The average household income for new college scholarship recipients from the previous year’s cohort was approximately $35,000.
