About the Scholarship

The Onsi Sawiris Scholarship program offers fully funded undergraduate and graduate scholarships to students from outside the United States. This scholarship includes full tuition, a living allowance, travel costs, and health insurance.

Egyptian students who wish to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees at top American schools may apply for the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship program. Scholarships will be awarded based on character, academic excellence, entrepreneurial spirit, and extracurricular activities. The scholarships cover all tuition costs, living expenses, health and travel insurance, and may also include the possibility of an internship position with the sponsoring firm.

The Onsi Sawiris Program was established by Orascom Construction in 2000 with the goal of contributing to educational initiatives that benefit the regions in which it operates. The program serves as an example of how the business community can actively engage in educational projects in Egypt. Its aim is to provide young Egyptians with the means to enhance their careers, build their character, and contribute to the communities in which they reside.

Preference will be given to candidates who have not spent a significant amount of time living, studying, or working abroad. Only the following universities are eligible for the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Program: the Universities of Chicago, Stanford, Harvard, and Pennsylvania.

Onsi Sawiris Scholarship – Eligibility Criteria Applicants are advised to meet the following conditions to be eligible for the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship:

For Undergraduates:

  • Be Egyptian citizens residing in Egypt (applicants with mixed nationalities will not receive priority).
  • Be prepared to commence their academic studies in the United States in 2024.
  • Commit to returning to Egypt for two years after completing their bachelor’s degree.
  • Have not lived abroad for more than three years.
  • GPA of 3.5 and 90% in Thanaweyya Amma certification (secondary year) or equivalent certifications.
  • TOEFL iBT scores with a minimum score of 100.
  • Old SAT scores (prior to May 2016) require an overall minimum score of 2100.
  • Updated SAT scores (since May 2016) require a total score of 1450.
  • Activate your extracurricular activities.

For Masters:

  • Be Egyptian citizens residing in Egypt (priority given to those with no second nationality).
  • Intend to pursue a master’s degree in business administration or engineering at a top U.S. university.
  • Have not lived abroad for more than three years.
  • Commit to staying in Egypt for two years after completing their bachelor’s degree.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • TOEFL iBT scores with a minimum score of 100.
  • GMAT score of 650 or above (for MBA applicants, obtained within the last five years).
  • A minimum GRE score of 302 (for other master’s programs).
  • At least three years of work experience.
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities.
  • For those with a Master’s degree from Egypt in a technical field different from their intended study area, consideration may be given.
  • Applicants with an existing Master’s degree from a foreign or Egyptian university in the same field are not eligible.

Admission to a university is not guaranteed by nomination for the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Program. Only the universities listed are eligible for the scholarship. If selected, scholarship recipients will receive the award upon enrollment in the university.

Preference will be given to candidates who have not spent a substantial amount of time living, working, or studying abroad.

Application Process for Onsi Sawiris Scholarship To apply for an Onsi Sawiris scholarship, follow these steps:

For Undergraduate Scholarship:

  1. Register for an account on the Amideast website here.
  2. Complete all personal information.
  3. Provide details about your education.
  4. Respond to two essay questions in the Statement of Purpose section.
  5. Upload the required documents, including the application form, transcripts, resume, graduation certificate or Thanaweyya Amma certificate (if available), test scores (SAT I/SAT II and TOEFL), and two recommendation letters.
  6. Submit your application.

For Masters Scholarship:

  1. Complete the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Graduate application form.
  2. Prepare the required documents, including your resume, graduation certificate, transcripts, test scores (TOEFL iBT/GRE or GMAT), and two recommendation letters.
