About Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business:

The Fuqua School of Business, part of Duke University, is a distinguished institution situated in Durham, North Carolina. With over 1,300 students enrolled in degree programs, it also offers non-degree business education and professional development programs through Duke Executive Education. In 2023, the Financial Times ranked its MBA program as the eighth-best business school in the United States.

The Graduate School of Business Administration, founded in 1969, welcomed its inaugural class of 20 students in 1970. In 1974, Thomas F. Keller, a Duke alumnus from the class of 1953, assumed leadership of the graduate program. Keller’s capital campaign successfully raised $24 million in just three years, with a generous contribution of $10 million from entrepreneur and benefactor J. B. Fuqua. This led to the Fuqua School of Business being named in his honor.

J. B. Fuqua’s upbringing on a tobacco plantation in Prince Edward County, Virginia, eventually led him to Duke University. His connection with Duke began when he requested books from the university’s library via mail. By the time J. B. Fuqua passed away on April 5, 2006, his total donations to Duke had reached nearly $40 million.

As part of its expansion strategy, Fuqua established international offices in St. Petersburg, Russia; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Shanghai/Kunshan, China; New Delhi, India; and London, England in September 2008. The faculty at the school is divided into eleven specialties, including Accounting, Marketing, Decision Sciences, Economics, Finance, Management, Health Sector Management, Management Communication, Operations Management, and Strategy.

In both 2010 and 2012, BusinessWeek’s Intellectual Capital ranked Fuqua’s faculty as the best in the United States. For the Daytime MBA Class of 2024, Fuqua received 3,539 applications, with a competitive admission rate of 20.5%. The class of 399 students was composed of approximately 55% of those admitted to the MBA program. The GMAT’s average score was an impressive 720, and the student body was proudly comprised of 52% international and 48% female students, showcasing a diverse and talented cohort.
