If you have followed me for a while you will know that I am not a big fan of New Year Resolutions. Mostly because resolutions just add extra stress to your life and quickly fall by the wayside so they are not super helpful.
So instead of New Year Resolutions I am going to let you in on a little secret which is super helpful to help you achieve manageable goals for this year.
Instead of stressing over the things you can’t do, why not celebrate the things you can?
Everyone has constraints, and it is really common with the people that I work with. Osteoarthritis, COPD, joint replacements, heart issues, osteoporosis, and the list could go on. Physically life is not quite as easy as it once was and it can negatively impact your view on everything.
So I ask you to do this in 2024.
Don’t focus on what you can’t do, but instead turn your thoughts to what you can.
Can’t do 10,000 steps? Doesn’t matter, are you able to walk around your living room or make it to the end of your street and back.
Can’t get off the floor? Can you practice lunging next to the kitchen counter.
Look around and find some movement/activity/exercise you CAN do.
And when you do what you can do, give yourself credit. Don’t compare yourself to other people or what you used to be able to do. Be excited about what you can do now.
Remember, the key to progress is consistency. By focusing on the things you can do, you’re creating habits that will make a big impact over time. So, instead of stressing about what you can’t do, welcome 2024 by celebrating what you can.
